Alpha Nu Omega Chapter

Serving the Bay Area since 1929

Our History

Alpha Nu Omega’s proud legacy of sisterhood and service to the Bay Area Community began on June 8, 1929. Lead by educator, philanthropist, past International President of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc.®, and our phenomenal charter member, Ida L. Jackson, we are the first graduate chapter in Northern California and the second in all of the Far Western Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®

Greetings From the Alpha Nu Omega Chapter

Greetings,

It is my pleasure to extend a warm greeting on behalf of the 170+ members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Alpha Nu Omega Chapter, located in Oakland, California. Chartered on June 8, 1929, Alpha Nu Omega proudly stands as the second graduate chapter in the state of California. We are the home to many distinguished Women leaders, including the 8th International President and 2nd Far Western Regional Director, Ida L. Jackson; the 16th Far Western Regional Director, Norma Tucker; and a long list of members who continue to serve at the regional and international levels. Leadership lives within Alpha Nu Omega, and I am honored to guide such a historic and impactful chapter.

Serving as the 36th President is both a privilege and a profound honor. Our active and engaged Sorors remain steadfast in upholding the mission of our 118-year-old sisterhood. The intergenerational membership reflects a mosaic of pioneers and professional members: women of exceptional scholarship, diverse professions, varied skills, unique interests, and many backgrounds.

Under the leadership of our International President and CEO, Danette Anthony-Reed, the 2022–2026 International Program centers on the powerful mantra, “Soaring to Greater Heights of Service & Sisterhood.”

Our International Program is driven by six initiatives:

Strengthen Our Sisterhood
Empower Our Families
Build Our Economic Wealth
Enhance Our Environment
Advocate for Social Justice
 Uplift Our Local Community

Alpha Nu Omega remains committed to implementing innovative, resourceful, and impactful programs that address community needs.

We also proudly support and advise the members of Rho Chapter at the University of California, Berkeley, ensuring that the mission and legacy of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® continue to thrive across generations.

Welcome to our chapter where we are empowered to lead, inspired to serve and committed to engaging the sisterhood!
